Another school year is underway and I have been nothing but busy, busy, busy.  Even though life seems to be pretty hectic, I welcome the organization a set schedule provides (remember I am a classic Type "A").  Despite the busyness I am learning to appreciate the gifts I have in my life...family who loves me, friends who care, a job, time to laugh and things to smile about, a home in a beautiful part of the country...
I am making this a brief post...well mainly because I have 101 things to get to...so I am adding a few pictures to tell some of the stories of September so far...hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoyed living them.

Mirror Lake and Whiteface Mountain

My in-laws have been up from Myrtle Beach, SC staying with us for the last two weeks.  Which has been wonderful.  This week they so graciously offered to watch the girls for a couple of days so Mike and I could "get away."  So ~ we didn't have to think twice about taking off.  We decided to go to Lake Placid, someplace we haven't been to in a few years, but love.  The weather couldn't have been any more perfect either.  Sometimes it's easy to forget about where we live but really we are blessed people to be so close to such beauty.  Anyway ~ it was wonderful to get away, just the two of us.  I love my children, but sometimes a break is SO NEEDED.  They can be draining even when at their best.  It was great to ride in the car without having to solve "backseat arguments," get someone a snack, listen to Hannah Montana and Laurie Berkner on the radio...

The first night we were there we ate at this amazing restaurant, The Dancing Bear.  We dined on the rooftop next to a firepit.  They brought blankets over because it was a little chilly, which I thought was pretty cool.  A glass of Riesling, the Bayou Burger (spicy  - my fave), and chocolate cake for dessert, all with lake views made for a very relaxing evening.  Which was much needed.
love my Riesling...

The next day we had a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, did some retail therapy downtown, including a stop at the Gap Outlet (another fave), sat by the lake with an iced coffee, and then headed to the High Falls Gorge before leaving for home. Talk about enjoying the beauty of nature.  That place was AMAZING!  I found it difficult to leave but since they were closing, I kinda had no choice in the matter...

perfect place for a getaway
High Falls Gorge...just amazing...

We came back refreshed, refined, and relaxed.  Which is good because now that September is here it's going to be just the opposite...

Back To The Real World

I can't believe the end of summer is upon us.  Well not the calender end yet, but what I think of as the traditional end of summer.  That means back to school for the girls and Mike next week, back to teaching piano for me, back to dance for 1 girl and this year gymnastics for the other.  While part of me is dreading the early morning routine, bus stop pick up/drop off, homework after school, earlier bedtimes for all, being a taxi driver for my girls...the other part of me is soooo looking forward to some alone time a regular schedule again.  Even though sometimes I complain when things are crazy, I truly like to be busy and have something going on all the time. I like trying to fit it all in and make it work.  And dare I say - sometimes I like chaos?  Why?  I think because it gives me some sense of accomplishment that I can juggle everything and make it all work.  Even if I get stressed out in the process.  Probably stems from being a perfectionist and overachiever.  I like being able to do it all and do it all well.  The only downside comes when I drop the ball on something...because perfectionists don't like to make mistakes.  So as I start the "new year", I hope to work on that aspect of myself.  The taking-too-much-on-and-when-I-do-dealing-with-being-imperfect-at-it-sometimes.  Guess that reminds me that I am definitely a work in progress.  But then aren't we all? :)

Here Goes Nothing...

I have decided to join the blogging world and start my own outlet of expression.  People have asked me what I will be writing about.  I have no set topic but plan to use this as a place to write funny stories about my life, express opinions on the world around me, and share thoughts that I otherwise may not share.  Why the title "Moonlight Musings?"  I am a night owl...I do all my more productive thinking later on in the evening, so chances are if you're reading something I wrote, that's when it was written.  In fact, it's after midnight right now.  Guess I should sleep sometime...
